MCAD Art Sale 2013

The Minneapolis College of Art and Design [MCAD] organizes an annual Art Sale that features artworks created by current students and recent graduates [alumni who have graduated within the last five years]. It's like the Affordable Art Fair we went to in New York last year, except even more so. The average price for all work is around $100, student artists are limited to a maximum price of $1,000, and alumni artists have a ceiling of $1,500 per piece. All proceeds go directly to the individual artists, or to scholarship funds.

We wanted to support the [proverbial starving] artists, so we decided to go on opening night, Thursday, November 21st. Tickets were a little more pricey for opening night, since you get first pick, "free" refreshments and finger food. We arrived right when the event started, at 6pm. There was complimentary valet parking, which was nice because it was a snowy and cold night.

After the president gave his speech and declared the event open, people were just grabbing artwork off the walls, as did we, since we saw two paintings that we immediately liked. We ended up with pieces by the following artists:
Lilith and Deity Down by Greta Kotz
An india ink / CNC milling machine piece, untitled, by Andrew Vomhof
Four small screenprinted images of houses, untitled, by Mary Davis

When the artworks find their permanent spots, in our new home, I'll post photos.
