We may have a problem... a macaron addiction / obsession problem...
We've been meaning to pay a visit to Patisserie 46, in Southwest Minneapolis for a while now, supposedly they have the best macarons in town. We stopped by two weekends ago [yeesh, I'm behind on my posts again, aren't I], to pick up some lunch and treats. The place was packed for a Sunday afternoon, and reminded us of the patisserie we used to frequent in Prospect Heights, NY, Beny's Delice. Glass display cases were stocked with exquisite classic French desserts that are almost too beautiful to eat. They have quite the selection of savory items for lunch as well — daily soup, bread, tartine, panini, sandwich, quiche, crepe, tart / pizza specials. The choices were overwhelming. I ordered the open faced Croque Monsieur, ham and cheese on thick slices of housemade hearty bread. They love their bread here, and almost all the savories come with thick slices of bread. We ordered our lunch to go, and waited for our food in oversized comfy leather club chairs situated by the fireplace. Nice touch, Patisserie 46.
I don't think we even knew what macaron flavors we got, we ordered at least two of what was available, maybe? The green is definitely pistachio, pink was raspberry, white is vanilla... The macarons ARE good. The flavors weren't as pronounced as they could have been, but the texture was perfect; a crisp surface with slightly chewy insides and a smooth filling. I swear if Jamie wasn't there, I could have polished off the dozen by myself... and vice versa. :)
